  What is Project Sharing?

The Vectorworks Project Sharing feature allows multiple team members to collaborate in the same file. Changes are made by checking out objects and commiting updates back the a shared Project File.

  How Project Sharing Works

Vectorworks Project Sharing uses two files.

The Project File (.vwxp)
This is the shared master file stored in the Dropbox project folder. Do not move or copy this file.

Working File (.vwxw)

This is your local file.  You make changes here, then use Save and Commit to send those changes back to the Project File.

Do NOT download the Project File (.vwxp) via a browser.  This will break Project Sharing.

Only open the Project File from the synced Dropbox folder in Finder or File Explorer on your computer (dropbox.com/install)

QUICK START

1. Accept the Dropbox folder invitation

2. Install and sign in to the Dropbox desktop app

3. Let the project folder fully sync to your computer

4. Open the Project File (.vwxp) from the synced Dropbox folder in Finder or File Explorer (not from a browser)

E. When prompted, create your Working File (.vwxw)

6. Save the Working File to a local non cloud synced folder on your computer

  Working in the project

  • Always work from your local Working File (.vwxw)

  • Do not open the Project File each time you work

  • Always work with an active and fast internet connection

  • Use Save and Commit frequently to push changes

  • Check out layers or objects before editing

  • Leave a short note with each commit

  • Only work on your department's layers.

  • We like to keep things nice and organized.
If you need to add a layer, please contact drafting@trg.live for assistance with the naming structure.

  • Got Class(s)?
We'd be happy to import your default classes so we can save ourselves some steps when updating sheet layers down the road.

  • When finished, Save and Commit or Close and Release

  • Be sure that the Dropbox App is finished syncing before going offline or shutting down your computer.

  Avoid these common mistakes

  • Do not download the Project File through a web browser

  • Do not open the Project File every time you work

  • Do not store your Working File in a cloud synced folder

  • Do not move, rename, or copy the Project File

  • Do not move a Working File from one computer to another

  • If you use more than one computer, create a separate Working File on each one

  Metadata Reset

image.png

If you encounter a metadata error, do not continue working in your current file.

What to do:

  1. Stop working in the file, save it locally

  2. Email drafting@trg.live and let us know you received
    a metadata error

  3. Include the name of the Project File you are working on

Our team will perform the reset and notify you when it is complete.

After the reset:

  • You will need to create a new Working File from the Project File

  • Your previous Working File should no longer be used

If you have unsaved changes:

  • Do not continue working in the old file

  • You may copy or import your changes into your new Working File after it is created

If you are unsure how to proceed, contact us before taking action.
